Dr. Peter J. Murphy was raised in Cheverly, MD. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, OH, in 1992, he worked for Gallup Catholic Elementary School as an eighth grade teacher. In 1994, he earned a Master’s Degree in Theology followed in 1998 from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. While completing with a Master’s Degree in Counseling, he worked as a Residence Director.


In 2000, Mr. Murphy began working for St. Mary’s College in Orchard Lake, MI as the Director of Student Life and an adjunct theology professor. Later he was promoted to the position of Director of Student Formation and Administrative Faculty. In 2003, Mr. Murphy began to pursue a doctoral degree in theology at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C..


While pursuing his theological studies, Mr. Murphy has served as a graduate assistant for housing and a teaching assistant for faculty in the School of Theology and Religious Studies at The Catholic University. Upon completion of coursework and language requirements in 2005 for the doctoral degree, Mr. Murphy began working for the Archdiocese of Washington as the Director for the Office of Family Life for the Department of Evangelization and Family Life. Mr. Murphy also taught several classes for the Education Pastoral Service program in the dioceses of Washington and Arlington.


In March 2011, Mr. Murphy began working for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as the Executive Director for the Secretariat on Evangelization and Catechesis.

He will be presenting on "The Process of Evengelization and using Social Media."
